Ballybay

Mother's first home was in Ballybay to which she came as a bride. There was no Manse for the Junior Married Minister so Father rented a little house at £15 per year which he paid for out of a salary of £60, kept a wife & a pony. If it had not been for the wonderful kindnesses received from the members of the congregation & others, they would certainly have commenced life in their first manse, to which they moved at the end of the year, in debt. Mother often recalled the very kind friends she made during that first year & I had the pleasure of meeting daughters of those friends when I was teaching & regularly am entertained in their very hospitable homes in the South of Ireland.
